Well, I like them a lot and disagree
that Henry Garza's playing is hideous and think that's an unfair assessment. I recall when SRV was first getting on the scene and he was criticized for being a Hendrix clone and his playing was dubbed derivative by some. Every guitar player has to start somewhere. Jonny Lang is another player who I think gets unfairly slammed. I find it interesting that much of the negative stuff about Lang has subsided, but he's still playing in his own style.
Blues is one area where there is so much that is begged, borrowed and stolen that it's often hard for a new player to break through, unless they are truly superb and original. Country is another area that suffers from the same fate, but it is rife with studio clones spewing out the same tired riffing behind a big hat name.
I guess it pretty much boils down to individual likes and dislikes. I wonder what people would think of Los Lonely Boys if they were just another bar band. Sometimes big fame brings out more criticism and in some cases just plain jealousy.
