Ok... after careful thought, playing and consideration last night...
I'm going to stick with the SDs for a while and just enjoy them. I really had fun playing it last night on my normal amp (had been on a Class A with headphones so I could watch over the youngling) and popped on my Fulltone OCD pedal. Really enjoyed what I was getting out of the combo.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it! New pickguard is in the mail so that should eliminate the height issue. I have a TUSQ slotted nut that should fit, though, may be a smidgen smaller than it should in the width department. Beats what is in there, though! If that doesn't pan out, I think I'm going to take it to a luthier and let them put a bone nut in there.
