Folks, Gibson is doing what they think they have to do to stay in the market. I think it sucks. I think they will fail in their strategy. Hopefully not fatally.
But look at what they are up against. More and more people are buying cheap guitars made abroad than ever before. The overseas companies have finally figured out how to make cheap disposable guitars that look fantastic and are made of adequate materials and quality to be "good enough". So people are buying these "for the money" guitars in droves. I understand the logic. Is this $2000 Gibson really 5x the guitar that the $400 Agile is? Hard to say.
It's the same mentality that sends people to WalMart to get a $49 DVD player. It's "good enough", right? At least "for the money"?
BTW, you can substitute guitars and Gibson with just about any product and company these days.
