If you got the D-28 at a good price I would definitely hold onto it. There is nothing like a Martin dread. As for playability, if the action's high it may be due for a neck reset. If not, then a good set-up and little time getting accustomed to the instrument should do the trick. I have a D-28, and had an HD-28, and they both play(ed) beautifully.
