There's another thread on here that lists the weights of several hundred Fender teles. Average a little over 8-lb.

The neck is a major contributor to overall weight.

Ash is not heavier than alder, they have same density.

Weight (density) does not seem to affect tone, but body thickness may do so. The body timber certainly does, and there you are at the whim of the sawmill. Try before you buy.
