I had a Snowy Owl try to take my head off once.

Nice story. They are just beautiful. Only saw one in the 'wild' and of all places, it was sitting on a post on a runway when I landed at O'Hare years ago. I was floored, but no doubt, that was it. Was late fall/winter/early spring.
Had the Great Horned Owl story related here earlier, but also another: as a kid, I found a Marsh Hawk nest. It was pretty rural here then. Found the eggs, then they hatched, I kept going back until the young were nearly adults. So I took my Brownie camera to get pics as they looked like Golden Eagles. Unfortunately the mother was around that day and caused instant apoplexy as she 'attacked' me repeatedly, swooping down within about 6' and chasing me back to my bike. I finally started pulling marsh grass out & throwing it at her so she'd veer away and took pics of her diving down at me. Reached my bike and pedaled like a maniac to get outta there.
I was just a kid and it didn't occur to me until much later that she was just trying to drive me away. Went back a few days later and the hawks were gone. Lost the pics somewhere along the years but with that camera, she was mostly just a dot anyway.
