I've done the PT-80, Phase 45, Reverb and Red Llama clone. They all fired up on the first try, very quiet, no rf weirdness, just good quality stuff.

I'd try the Llama clone first. It's a VERY easy build and it's a really unique overdrive. Tubey with the gain set low and sounds like a mild fuzz with the gain cranked. Don't worry too much about what to build first...you WILL build more
