My Uncle Fred was a Gunner on a Mitchell B-25 - Air Apache USAAF, first in North Africa and later in New Guinea where they were shot down by a Mitsubishi Zero, spending 2 months in the swamps avoiding The Enemy & Headhunters.
Uncle Fred greatly admired the Zero's engineering.
He later became head of The Flight Engineers Union.
He was with American Airlines the rest of his life.
The Mitchell B-25 is still my favorite plane, followed by The B-17, followed by The Fokker
Triplane (The Red Baron's main squeeze.)
As far as modern stuff probably The Tomcat.
When it comes to Aircraft - Edgar Schmued was The Man.
Nobody'll top that legacy.
