Thanks for your comments. - Steve Salvi and I have been discussing this issue as well. Now with the blank body to work with we are not limited by the position of the controls. A straighter line is definitely in order although this will be between the bridge and the trem unit - ending up with a contour much like some of the Fender basses. We are also considering stripping the controls from the plate and mounting everything through the pickguard in a curved line - thus freeing the design to be more sympathetic to the other hardware elements and the body shape. The standard tele control plate is such a strong shape it is hard to design around it. The end design will be very much like a Bass VI now:
