I tried out a used Highway 1 strat at GC not too long ago and really liked it. Played it for about a half hour.. I believe it was an '05, if I remember correctly. So I'm not knocking the Highway Ones - In fact, I came REAL close to buying it, but I have two strats already..
Just sayin' some people love their Faded SG's (like me) and some don't (like you). I guess that's why they make all these different guitars...
