A friend of mine out in LA has some sort of Squire Tele (black with chrome looking pickguard)that was customized into a fretless model...he is quite talented and could make most anything with strings sound good.
This past spring when in SoCal, my wife and I were visiting him and I got to play this fretless axe for myself. It was actually pretty cool playing once I got the hang of it. Kind of like playing slide without the slide being in the way. I've been thinking off & on about making one ever since.
