Took this photo in June 2010.
Some of the last fruit that this tree produced.

I cut it down a couple years ago.

I hope the slabs are dry by now.

You do know you've got to take out the pits before you start cutting, right? Cherry pits suck tone.

Sawmill - these folks run a nice little family operation. They were very helpful.

A couple of trunks.

I love that picture of the wood in the trunk. I always have sawdust or bark left overs in mine. Someday I'll get a truck.

Good luck

That wood looks absolutely beautiful from what I can see. I love working with cherry. It makes a great neck too. Can't wait to see this take shape.

Love the piece on the sawmill. Too bad for the cherries, but now you have a lot of nice wood to play with.

Good luck! A lot of the cherry trees in our neighborhood have died in the last few years. We had one cut down awhile ago. Not big enough to salvage any wood from and it was also infected with some fungus so I'm not sure I would want it laying around anyway.

Cherry is one of my favorite woods. You are one of my favorite builders. That makes for a great combination.

So......you dry your wood in the trunk? I guess you just crack it open to control the humidity? I am always learning stuff here.

I dried the cherry in a garage, stacked up on a bunch of 3/4" x 3/4" pine (stickers). a large cinder block goes on top to help keep the warpage to a minimum. I used the trunk of my car to transport the whole log to the mill and to bring it back from the mill.

Thanx acalan,

I haven't forgot about the "hamonator" amp build, In fact I've actually took it out of the shed and took a peek inside. That amp will be a real challenge so I have been gaining knowledge by building a number of the tweed style designs.

I promise I will get to that Hammond AO-14 conversion soon.
