Yeah....that's my problem too. I tend to think after I glue something up

I just let the mind wander and brainstorm stuff that I won't likely do....LOL.

I'll glue up some sticks for the dots, do I do red, blue, or green? Do I do a combo color? Mother of stick? Do I do something creative like multi squares within a circle?.... too much time waiting for glue to dry.

I'm leaning toward a green stick pickguard.

You sure you want to cover up that grain with a pickguard?

That's the problem when you have a medium like this.... waaay too many options

I'm sure you've chosen a fretboard already, but have you given consideration to using
something that's very dense and stiff? It would probably help any issues with the
multiple joints as mentioned above, if there are any.

You've probably already explained it and I've forgotten, plus I'm way to lazy to go back and
re-read, but what are the "plugs" designed to do? I know you're putting some type of
laminated plugs in, are the "sticks" you're using the same as we've seen for the build;
those tongue depressor things?

I'm not sure I want to use a fretboard, unless I make a stick one. The plugs are just filler for the connections from one stack to another. For the plugs, I am just making another stack of sticks and will prep that to size and cut into cubes and then glue them in the new slots I created. I could have used wood putty, but thought I'd like some consistancy of laminations as much as I could get. There will still be seams, but it's a craft stick guitar....right?

Rainbow dots in stick form...are looking pretty cool..... the color is water soluable though...I glued up a dot lamination from green, blue, red, and a combo red yellow green blue.

Bad news on the colored sticks... they lose their color with yellow glue. I noticed the color on my hands and paper towel.

I just planed the edge off the bundle of "rainbow" sticks and all the red was gone. Too bad, as that effect was cool.

I had also started a fretboard with colored sticks on the bottom 3 layers and regular on the top 2 layers... guess that one will get a re-do too.

"Mother of stick" may be my favorite term from the challenge this year. Hilarious.

Mother of stick would have been variegated sticks since they really vary in color.

Maybe I'll try supergluing the sticks instead of yellow glue.

Maybe consider wood dyes? They are available in many colors....

I just tried flooding 3 tubes of cheap superglue on 7 of the sticks and once the air clears, we'll see how that looks. It's not critical to use the colors...I just thought it would add a little pizzazz to it.

Mother of stick dots

Here is a group of colored sticks that I superglued together yesterday. I turned them on my metal lathe down to a tad under 1/4". The colors aren't as vivid since the dye doesn't soak internally as much on the sticks. Still I think it looks cool and will be fun to use. Could be stickbalone if you prefer.

That's actually varigated stickalone. Very, very rare. And with the CITES restrictions, you could charge a bundle for that stuff on the black market

I buzzed down the plug stock, cut them into pieces and they are now gluing in the previously shown gaps. I also reinforced a couple areas that I thought were thin, especially the cutaway area.

Thanks... I dunno about the genius part....

Here are the plugs plugging the spaces. I'll let this dry and then I can clean up the perimeter and start to think about the top. I may reinforce a few more spots though. We'll see.
