henderson is go's 2012 Challenge Build Thread -- COMPLETED

Ok, So I've finished drawing up plans, and also gathering wood. I'm thinking a tele based on an Amati... This is going to be fun :D

Drawing up plans?! Is that allowed?

Good luck, man. You've got a pretty keen eye, so I'm looking forward to this

Thanks Roger, I've been lucky enough to have mentors like Ervin somogyi, who has really helped to develop my sense of design.

Alright, here's my proof of start picture(s). My materials are curly maple for the neck and fingerboard (both found at lowes), The body will be quilted cherry I found at a local exotic lumber yard. I wanted to use euro sycamore, but the $25 a board foot price scared me off, then I wanted to use sugar maple, but this piece of cherry was soooo nice (and surprisingly cheap) I had to have it. The top will be European spruce (from old world tonewoods). I also have some miscellaneous parts, but I'm considering making my own pickup...

Whoo-hoo--look out Scatter Lee, there's some competition for the Scattervarius! Looking great, Henderson, I'll be checking in on this one!

Thanks everyone:

R Stratenstein: I didn't know about Scatter's build until now... I kind of feel like I'm copying him now, but mine will be different and I guess every idea has been done at one point or another

jpbturbo: Ha, I think I just found the name of this guitar

I did some work on the body tonight:

On to the table saw

Jointing the body with a low angle smoothing plane

Gluing the body with fish glue

This is going to be beautiful!

My only complaints so far are that your shop's too clean and your handplane is better than any of mine.

Thanks, but I find it ironic that you would say my shop is too clean: my dad constantly yells at me for not keeping the shop clean enough

Many kids my age want video games, expensive clothes, etc. I just save up my money and buy tools

I am envious of that shop, and the motivation required to keep it that clean.

Great start, Brian. Yep, I was drooling over your table saw setup there. I'd love to have the space for that kind of equipment.... you little punk
