Thanks, I really like this shop set up... Unfortunatly, when I leave for college it's all over. At least I have my planes, chisels, and some hand power tools…

I don't want to rain on your parade but, have you read the rules? Point number 3:
Quote:
3. The body must be based on a resemblance to a Telecaster shape -- everything else about the guitar can be different than a Telecaster, but the body will be required to be able to be seen as a telecaster or a variation of a Telecaster. The body and neck must have a finish -- no bare wood -- unless the guitar is made out of a material that does not require a finish, such as plastic, metal, etc. If you think your design may be a problem in regards to this rule send an email to the Admin for an official determination. All decisions are final.

What are you talking about?
It's obviously a telecaster.

Definitely looks likes a tele inspired guitar to me. Just has the cut outs on the side.

As everyone else has stated, beautiful shop! I can't wait to see this come along!

To design this guitar I used a print out of a tele and modified a few areas and then added the cut out areas. But even with these mods I think it's still very tele-eque IMHO

I've got the blank ready for cutting... almost

Scraping the squeeze out

Over to the down draft table to sand the body with my ROS

On to the other side...

Yeah, i agree, Brian. You don't need to worry because that is obviously tele-derived.

Oh, and a downdraft table too?!

Damn nice shop you have there - especially the Grizzly TS and the downdraft table. Love me some Grizzly equipment!

at first I assumed this was not going to have a pickguard, but then in the first drawings you have of it the lower f-hole looks lighter. is that a coincidence or are you going for a see-thru guard or something?

this build is coming along nicely btw!

Yay cabinet scrapers! Keep spreading the gospel, henderson; it's the simplest and most underrated tool in my shop.

15 eh? I think we need to see a birth certificate....

Don't worry, it's just shop envy talking. Looking forward to seeing this one come together.

Wow. At your age I had just purchased my first guitar and tried to learn to play it. Now I'm 36 and still can't play, but have finally gathered the courage to try building. I'm so far behind... and I also make a terrible mess when I work!

Thanks, I drew my plans up with just a pencil and paper so the lightness of the f hole is just human error. I'm personally not a fan of pickguards on any guitars

Scrapers are some of my favorite tools. The cheap ones I have are pretty cheap and don't hold an edge very long, so I think I'm going to upgrade to a Lie-Nielsen soon.

Who are you, Donald Trump? Thanks, Mike. I really enjoy seeing your work on the OLF and it means a lot coming from you.

The body wasn't perfectly flat, so I used a block plane to level it.

Making a template...

After sanding the template, the edges were paper like and sticking up so I used a sharp chisel to cut them off.

Jointing the top

Joining the top with the tape method.

R Stratenstein: I didn't know about Scatter's build until now... I kind of feel like I'm copying him now, but mine will be different and I guess every idea has been done at one point or another

No worries. SL didn't build it for a challenge, and mostly I saw it over on My Les Paul forum. Yours is substantially different, and besides, as you said, it's all been done before anyway. Looking forward to yours. Making great progress.

Nice work.

This is a similar concept to what I was planning... had I enlisted... but I didn't this year.

Great shop, I wish mine was so clean and neat! You are also to be commended for your skill and abilities. Most 15 year olds don't even know what a hand plane is. Keep it up, bright future ahead for you, your Dad should be proud.
