It's going to be fun watching your thread, Mike. Good luck, not that you'll need it

Thanks Hockeygoon...

I will try to get the wood posted tonight. I don't have a working printer at home so I'll have to try to print the proof page at work or go somewhere to print it. I am planning on a nitro finish (either sherwood green or sonic blue) so I need to get the body done quickly and get it on to the paint stage.

I have a question. How did you get busted from Big Mike to just Mike, and if you win the Challenge, will you get promoted back?

I enjoyed your build last year and look forward to seeing what you come up with this year.

Just a note: Maricopa will be forwarding us our mission details shortly. He is the designated Az woodbeaters Union chairman this year. I liked the one you did last year... hoping this one is keen too.

I asked to be de-bigged... A couple of years ago I had lost 100lbs... Unfortunately I have gained half of it back so I am fighting that dragon again. Everyone still calls me Big Mike... It started as a stage name 15 years ago and has stuck.

OK... Here's my wood shot... On the left is a piece of 8/4 ash with a piece of indian Rosewood and on the right is 8/4 alder and a piece of curly maple.

Still undecided what I am going to do. Right now I am leaning towards the ash body & rosewood neck on the left... I initially planned on an alder body and a rosewood neck but I have this piece of ash that I have not used and I am thinking about maybe a translucent finish on the ash.

In the 2009 Build Challenge I bought my first router on Craigslist...

In keeping with that tradition... just bought this Rigid Jointer on Craigslist today... I have been wanting to upgrade from my little tabletop Delta jointer.

I am going with the ash body and rosewood neck... unless something goes horribly wrong and I have to start over on one of them.

Tonight I ran the 8/4 ash through the Rigid planer and then across my new old Rigid Jointer. After a couple of adjustments to the jointer it works great.

Here is a shot of how much ash shavings the planer took off and a shot of the body halves ready to join.

Looking nice so far. Good Luck! I will be looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I smeared some titebond on the body halfs and clamped it up. I always use waxed paper to keep the glue that squeezes out from sticking to anything. I leave it clamped for an hour oe so and then unclamp it and wipe off the squeezed out glue with a wet rag.

Before I went to the handlebar I took the body out of the clamps and cleaned off the squeeze out glue with a damp rag.
