dilbone's 2012 Challenge Build Thread -- COMPLETED

I'm calling this one Single-Double-Double LaCab caster...or something like that.

Single pickup, double f hole, double bound...I've not done a semi hollow or binding before so this will stretch me a bit but I'm looking forward to it.

Here it is in all of its exotic glory.....

A doug fir post from HD and a piece of 4/4 flamed maple from Keim Lumber in Amish country Holmes county Ohio that's been waiting for 2 years to be used for a nice neck.
I was really hoping to make some sawdust tonight, but it wasn't in the cards. Tomorrow night for sure.

I was wondering when you were going to use that Keim Lumber maple , I remember when you got that batch of lumber , the fir post is something I've been thinking of doing .
This should look great , Doug. fir and flame maple make a great pair.

Speaking of...the other side of the gate frame needs a new post...that's why the gate is open...and so the chicken's can free range inside the fence area...

Looks like I need to go pick up another post for that repair...may wait until May 15th though

Finally was able to get a bit of saw dust made with a little bit of time tonight. First I marked out 20" clear sections of the fir post and got the trusty circular saw out.

Once I had these cut I went ahead and marked out the center line so ripping on the band saw would be easier. I decided to rip along the straight grained sides on this one.

I borrowed this method from someone here, can't remember who...but it works very well with little wandering

Gonna need some practice before I rip some fretboards from the flamed maple

Not too bad, the timberwolf 3tpi blade cuts like butter...1 more to go

I think this just might work

Now I get to fire up my $60 craigslist purchase...the ol' delta 4" jointer

That jointer is nice, worth every penny and more...

ah, the titebond original...that's a lot of surfaces. I went back over a couple surfaces once I got done it was really soaking in and drying out quickly

4 clamps and we'll have a blank ready for the planer tomorrow

I am just amazed how nice it is having the right tools for the job. It took about an hour to put that blank together...last time I used a 4x4 post I had only a table saw and a terrible router/straight edge set up for the jointing. Took me an entire morning/afternoon to prepare the last one. I have come to realize that I don't ever want to build another guitar without my bandsaw, jointer, drillpress, ROSS and planer.

True, but if we are honest...we all would do it with a spork and hard boiled egg if left with no alternative .
