I've seen some amazing counter tops made out of cement - they must have sanded them flat.

Cool! Pity you forgot the mesh, but time will show if it was really needed.

I think it'll be fine.

Just don't shelter underneath it in an earthquake. Don't ask me how I know.

You can always retro fit with rebar later

Most exciting day of the Challenge yet. Now, it'll be a hectic four days while we wait to see what's up.

Good job, Roger!

I hope you realise that Concrete-casters are best suited to rock! (sorry bad pun there [groan]). This guitar should win on aggregate (damn another bad pun)

I've been hanging out to see this - can't wait to see it out of the mould. Nice one Roger.

I'm pretty nervous, mojo. As I said earlier, my early confidence has been shaken now lol.

Well, the smooth part is formica, the stuff you see bubbling out is the concrete

Again, I hope so. I'm not necessarily wanting a shine, but smooth would be nice...

They usually form them upside down on something very smooth, like what I did here. The front of the guitar is pressing up against a sheet of masonite, so hopefully that will give the front a nice finish.

yeah, I hope it doesn't self-destruct. I'll just have to be careful not to drop it... which will be difficult considering how heavy it feels at the moment

or maybe just coat the entire thing in about a 1" thick layer of epoxy

Thanks, Picton. It'll be longer than 4 days. I'm going to do my best not to touch it until next Monday. Hope I can hold out that long...

Thanks, south. As i said earlier, I'm pretty nervous about it. I just don't think it's going to work out as I'd hoped, but we'll see...

Me three! Isn't there a bonding agent that allows you to surface/repair concrete?
And, on another level, could you go the Stucco route if you want either surface smoother?

I had my alarm set for Tuesday so I'm kind of coming into this late.

Maybe I can relieve some of your concern about the smoothness issue.

If it turns out too rough and you can't smooth it out, you can always play it with a welding sleeve on your right arm. That would just add to the industrial theme of the guitar.

There are products out that that I could use to resurface. I'm not really going to think about it until I take it out of the form. It may be so far beyond repair that nothing will help...

You're just a well of helpful advice aren't you?

Here here, Bravo, much rejoicing, kudos, applause, hurrah...

I don't know why you lost your confidence, you developed a great plan, and executed it well, vibration was the key and you did that so smile, you done good.

If there are any voids they can be filled with lots of different things, stucco, epoxy etc. I would think a thin layer of epoxy spread on the outside and sanded nice and flat could look cool. I've used trans-tint dye in epoxy before and it worked great, this could give you some color and still see the crete underneath. Nothing to worry about here.
