Oh very much so, though I'm leaving it a "paddle headstock" until the tuners arrive.I allowed more width and length on the plank than the pattern, just in case The snakehead has always been my favorite

It's been a quiet day in Lake Wobegone...........NOT! I had what seemed like a million little errands and chores to do before I could get back to the build......on my day off no less.Oh well, like they used to say "life is what happens while your making other plans"
When we last saw our patient, the top/back plates needed cutting out.I also got the 3/4 poplar strip for the body core and cut a couple of pieces.I also trimmed the fretboard blank to a working width. Please excuse the flash glare, the room lighting is kind of funky

I laid the body core pieces to do my tracing and also mark my glue lines.Except for the centerline and the perimeter, it's a waste of time and glue to fully laminate.Heck, the majority is getting cut out anyway, right? Also less mess.In the first pic, "Hey, it fits now"

Well, that's about it for tonight, it's been a long day But tomorrow is shaping up I also got my neck reinforcing rod material as well.If we have a pretty day, I may be able to get some routing done.I also have a jig or two to build as well. Then again I better get the body core glued up before I plan much.By the way, you may have noticed the most interesting grain on the plates was the back.I chose the most even grain for the front as it will have a pickguard and ...............soundhole Even I know it's not going to be very loud as an acoustic But seeing as how I'm doing an 8 string, and I may string it in octaves, I may also need to use a mix of phosphor bronze and nickel on the top two courses to get it to sound the way I want it to.I'm going for a Herman's Hermits kind of thing electrically, and a dry woody sound up next to the guy holding it ( me ) .If this works out, fine.If not, I still don't want any wolf tones Being a long time 12 string player, I know what I'm looking for,and some instruments make it easy, and some make it hard.Time will tell, goodnight friends

Dave

Well, I got the core blank glued up, but not much more.Wasted a day of perfect weather being sick to my stomach and I have to work tomorrow At least I got a better start than I thought, will get paid my bonus tomorrow so I will order the last of the hardware. So, things are looking up
The pics show the glue up.With 10 pieces, you can't really do it all at once. The first pic is my " hi-tech" glue spreader, followed by the glue up of the right side, then the left side. After smoothing it up, I'll retrace it then cut it out. Will also rout the neck for the reinforcing rod then too.Stay tuned my friends

It can be a challenge, but using the same setup, I glued the 5 on the right first, then the 5 on left and the center joint an hour later.I used to make through-neck blanks for sale. The main layup there is 3 pieces, with 5 at the headstock. It's actually very easy using pipe clamps alternating over then under.I just no longer have any This is doing it the hard way and will require some leveling, but not as much as if it were staying a solid blank

Dave, I am new to this and have a dumb question. When gluing up multiple pieces, do you use any dowels or other items in the joints, or is titebond sufficient?

Thanks in advance for your help.
