While I don't have much to add on building guitars cause I've never done it, I have been making surfboards for many years. Just a tip for making the resin pickgaurd you were attempting and how I would do it. Its very similar to the method we use for making fiberglass fin blanks for surfboards. Start with a piece of glass or an old mirror. Using 3m 233 green masking tape, mask off the area of the glass you will be covering with resin. Now give the glass 6 coats of a quality carnuba car wax. I would suggest laying down at least a single layer of 2oz. fiberglass cloth in your first coat to give you a little strength as a backer. The cloth will disappear in the resin. Now lay down your colored resin. Once its hardened you can use your masking tape boarder to peel it up and pop it off of the glass. Once you get an edge going it will pop right off.
Also be aware that many epoxy resins yellow significantly as they age. I would suggest silmar poliester resin or West System epoxy resin with the special 207 clear hardener. |

Thanks Mike!
Because there is no tone control I did a little mod to the pot: ![]() I put a 249K resistor between the outer side of the pot and ground so the pot value changed to 125K For a slightly warmer tone. The twang is still there but I dont have to turn my treble on my amp way down. I want to make a little switch in the cc cover so I can turn it on/off. More info about changing pot values: http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/potm.htm Sometimes even a tele is an itsybtsy tooo bright |
