Let's see if I have this ...

Trading Hutterites beer for leather as a resourceful way to spiff up your entry in an international $100 Telecaster build challenge?

Brilliant! Downright poetic even.

All this reminds me of a super Tele player from Canada named Grant Siemens. Plays with Corb Lund and the Hurtin Albertans. Great band -- don't miss them if they come your way.

Here's a sample (banjo instead of tele in this case) that even features some Hutterites ...

Hey,home at at decent time today
What to do,how about a switch tip and a string tree

Once we have the correct calibers,06 for the tip and a 223 for the tree
Cut down the 06 to the correct length.

Make myself a insert out of a scrap of ash

On to the tree
I cut down the 223 brass a bit.Now I need to remove the spent primer
A finishing nail works well

Now we have a screw hole!!

Now cut it down and file a couple slots in it,insert screw

My slots are a bit rough.I have about 2000 of these so I will try to clean it up,if not I will just make another one

Time to try that $1.86 pickguard
When I was in elementary school we use to do leathercraft, but that was some time ago.I even have some tooling stamps here somewhere.Better see if I can hunt them down.
Anyway, just not to sure how to cut this guard out.I did a test piece with the router and it actually seemed to work pretty well.As long as I ket it sandwiched between two pieces of wood it cut pretty well with out many fuzzies(not sure if thats the technical term) so I decided to give it a shot
I put the leather in between my template and another slightly larger piece of wood so the router bit had wood to cut too.

I used the largest flush trim bit I had and made a pass, then switched to a small one for the corner radius of the neck pocket and the bridge cutout

Turned out pretty good. Now where are those tools!!!

The hutterite guy asked if I wanted the leather split. We will have to see if it is too thick.Better be included in the six pack!!!

You could use .50 BMG brass for the knobs! Love the antler though.

One of the best Canadian bands ever. They were way ahead of their time. Sort of country meets Danzig sound.
