I don't think it's muddy at all. Cleans are really nice and I like to back off the tone a bit when I would generally run the OV with more treble. I've put a lot of Tele neck pickups in and I usually think they are muddy ... I liked the OV neck the best so far. I think the Area is comparable and works really well.
