should have provided more context...

the few gigs I do when the reggae beat drops are almost always with 2 electric guitars. So agreed wholeheartedly that ska is upstroke (and my penchant for it probably shows from my punk background...that and it reminds me of the i sweep at the end of a rasgueado...yes, punk and flamenco, makes sense, eh?)

Back to the point...

When playing with 2 electrics and ensuring that we are leaving space for the music to breathe we hit the chords together and ensure different voicings. So while the other guitar (or I depending on day) hit the downstroke barre...the other plays upswept triads. Not traditional necessarily but it adds a bit of flavour.
