This has really sent shockwaves throughout Nashville, needless to say. Even though Steve went to the Ravens in 2006, he still had strong ties to the Metropolitan Nashville/Davidson County area with two charities. In fact, just two weeks ago, he opened a new restaurant here in town on Jefferson Street (Jimi Hendrix's old stomping grounds in the early 1960s, just to add a guitar-based reference). I dare say it would be impossible to find anyone in this town who has an unkind word or thought about Number 9.

Personally, I'm a lifelong, diehard Dolphins fan, but I always enjoyed watching Steve play. I always thought he carried himself with unimpeachable professionalism on the field and uncommon humility off the field.

On a note of coincidence, as I write this post, the local television stations have interrupted programming with a Metro Police press conference regarding the case, and the information coming out sounds, prima facie, like a murder-suicide--even though the police are not officially committing to that description at this moment. Apparently, Steve was shot multiple times, and the young lady he was with (not his wife) had a single gunshot wound to the head with the handgun laying next to her body. Terrible, terrible circumstances.

I'm going to call my younger brother, who's a Metro Police detective (Sex Crimes Unit), to see if his buds in Homicide have any additional info.

God bless Steve's family during this tragic time.

Joel
