If my memory isn't out of whack, the early '80s reissues were made in Japan. I have an '84 Squier Tele built in the same plant and it's my number one.

I've made a couple of changes, but it gives you some idea. I had a MIJ Fender Tele from a bit later and it was very close to this one in shape and finish (including the rounding of the back of the headstock), just had a thinner neck, which I didn't like as much.

I don't know much about the USA reissues from that period, though. I did have an '83 USA Tele, not a reissue, and it was well built. I didn't care for the Elite saddles as I couldn't get them to quit rattling. Otherwise it was a really good guitar. It had a really chunky neck, which I like. Unfortunately, the need for funds caused me to sell it...

Hope that helps somewhat.
