They are great guitars. Just not for me. I thought I wanted one because all my guitar heroes played them, but it didn't work out in my hands when I went to the store, it felt too funny to me. I paid more and got a Les Paul instead.
If you played one and loved it and can afford it, then go for it!
They are more fragile than a Tele (what isn't?) but not as fragile as a hollow body. If you take care of your stuff and get a proper hard case for it then you should be fine.
