Some of my favorite grape varieties are Syrah (Shiraz), Grenache (Garnacha) and Malbec - all very fruity with some sweetness and warmth to them, and usually rather powerful.
Try some Côte du Rhône, Languedoc-Roussilion or (a little more expensive) Crozez Hermitage - all great south-east France districts.
But I gotta say you have some very good wines yourself!(I'm thinking California).
