Trying to ID a Gibson Ga-17 RVT
Hey all! I've used the hang out of this forum in the past for tips and tricks and finally have a question I can't find the answer to :)
I picked up a Gibson Ga-17 RVT "Scout" from a pawn shop for $100 a couple years ago and have used it as a home amp since...that shiny-bright blues tone hits me in the right places. I recently took it to a local guitar show to try and hock it so I could fund a GA-5T (more mobile, in better condition) off Craigslist. It wasn't until this time that I found out my Scout amp is unique. I have a footpedal like all the rest, but it's a single button pedal with a small black plastic button instead of the dual pedal I've seen in most pictures/auctions/etc. The pedal controls the reverb, and the tremolo uses an "on/off" knob with a click to start it instead of just a smooth pot. The vintage Gibson dealer at the show actually scratched his head at it! :)
Overall, the reviews I got were mixed. I had only one person tell me he thought it was modded...a few guys opened the chassis but concluded that it was all stock and it must be some sort of oddity. I've searched pretty far & wide and come to no sort of solid reason as to why my Scout is different than the rest.
Anyone have any ideas? :)
Thanks in advance!
