Or as an alternative suggestion, you could leave the amplifier alone and use a Rangemaster preamp like Eric Clapton et al did with their 18's. The 18 is not a bright sounding amp design so it sounds like you did a good job of faithfully reproducing the original tone.

Nice looking cabinet you built for that amp head by the way.
