When the same stomp circuit is converted to SMT, how much -- if any -- performance, "tone," etc. is lost?

Thanks for any qualified input on this. I've seen
many arguments and a lot of contradictory assertions (sometimes from the same people
) on other forums, mostly from people who obviously don't know what they're talking about.
