So does anyone else hear flatwounds on those lower strings? Or are they just some heavy gauge?
Perhaps discussed ot death already, did they always tune to Eb?
thanks - will post when I finish.

No Problem
As far as the strings goes, they have been discussed to death (ba dum tsss).
Buck and Don were both using the ridiculously thick strings that existed in the early 60's. Buck used something like .012's or .013's up until he died. Don did not. Don was putting on light strings like .010's as early as mid to late 63'. When Ernie Ball came out with .009's Don jumped on em' as quick as possible. Thanks to the help of Jerry Brightman, I can safely say that Don, from the late 60's (we could say 68) to the end of his career used what today are Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies. Nickel Wound diameter .009, .011, .016, .026, .036, .046. You'll note the lower pitched strings are a bit heavier so Don could get a little more twang.
The only reason I don't use these is that (for me) they die after about an hour of being on the guitar, but before they die, they're EXCELLENT.
