You can get the black duct (duck) tape and use that as a binding, that would be sweet.

my other idea is stick with the pick guard you have or go with a hardened flat piece of leather.

someone mentioned branding it which I love, if you don't brand the body then put the thin layer of OSB on the head and brand that with a name or initial.

last series of ideas...................Go with the torched binding and a bit of the torched burst (it really adds something to the look) and see if you can get the metal pieces finished with a black oxide finish to give that made out of iron look, you can even use stovepipe black and toss them on the Bar-b-Que or in the oven on broil to bake it in so it does not wipe of.
