I'm late to this thread.

As the owner and overseer of a recent large home-improvement project, I love the OSB, but I think the burst was a step in the wrong direction. Too traditional. It should have been that pour-on epoxy stuff they use for hatch-cover furniture, in basic "clear".

And for the pickguard? Asphalt roofing shingle. You'll need to wear a leather work glove to play it of course.
