Hi Ron.
I just stumbled upon this thread this morning. It's awesome!
I don't read tab -but anything Don Rich, to me is great.
Over the years, I've figured out tons of his licks, and lately I've been getting down the pedal steel parts on my tele.
The pedal steel part in Buckaroo is a real neat little solo. Once you get it down, and you actually familiarize yourself with the odd positionings, it really falls into place nicely.
One of the great little tricks for simulating pedal steel on a guitar -as you know- is holding one note and simultaneously bending another.
Some of the ones in Buckaroo are cool little bends that I had to get creative with to get the sound down.
Try holding down the D string at the 12th fret w/your third finger, and simultaneously pulling the G string fretted in the 9th fret down a full tone while striking both.
Works in the key of D.
It's a bifferent way of looking at bends.
Along the same lines, is a lick I got from Roy Buchanan years ago. Works in any key, but the middle part of the neck is best, as the strings are easiest to bend:
Make an E chord, say, in the seventh fret. Pluck all three note at once, and simultaneously pull the G string down (Raising it's pitch) a semitone and release the bend so it goes back to it's initial note.
I know this stuff sounds weird, and maybe I'm not explaining it as clearly as possible, but it's a lot of fun figuring out and inventing new bends to get that pedal steel sound.
Maybe some day I'll get around to making a quick youtube vid of some of these fun licks!
