Ever watch Gatemouth Brown play? He uses a capo all of the time and does all of his fingerwork with everything EXCEPT his index finger. I saw him on TV years ago with Roy Clark, and was mightily impressed with his playing, but I always wondered if there was something wrong with that finger to where he couldn't use it.
Anyhoo, I was just thinking that you may be able to get by like that for awhile.
