Using knuckle slides

Recently I picked up a brass knuckle slide, and so far I'm having a blast playing around with it. I haven't used it live yet, but I like the ability to use my ring finger for at least some chords while still throwing in a slide lick now and again. But, I also notice a tendency for the edge of the slide to catch on the string above it when I'm moving around the neck - the slide hitting the A when I'm playing the D& G strings for instance. Any advice on how to avoid this? Am I pressing too hard with the slide, or do I need to mute heavier with my other fingers?

Thanks!

Justin
