I guess I wasn't thinking about tone, but you're absolutely right - less boom, more mids/punch. I see a lot of guys using StingRays. I personally like a Sterling because it's not as wide a neck as the Ray, which is more like a Precision "B" or "C" width neck. I really want a Sterling 5 HH (or HS), but I don't know when I'll be getting it. The preamp on the MusicMan basses really suits country, especially the "new" country, I think.
