Thank for the encouragement fellas! Don Rich is my forte so to speak...

You know how Johnny Cash's guitarist, Luther Perkins, played the "Clickity Clack" on an Esquire during everything but the solos? They called it the "Boom-Chicka-Boom". Well what I'm posting now it Don's 'Boom-Chicka Boom"

The following tabs are (left to more) simple to complicated. They are for and A chord.

------------------------|----------------|----------------------
------------------------|----------------|----------------------
-2-0-2--2-0-2-(repeat)|--2-0-2--2-0-2-|--2----0----2------0-
------------------------|----------------|----0-2h------0-2h---
------------------------|-0------0-------|-0--------0-----------
------------------------|----------------|-----------------------

These 3 riffs and their variations and fills in between chord changes would fill the verses and chorus's of numbers such as "Act Naturally", "Love's Gonna Live", "My Heart Skips a Beat", and numerous others.

I recall reading a interview with Tom Brumley (Buckaroo Pedal Steel Player). He said that the reason that these licks were often missed live was because Don was concentrating on sing harmony with Buck (and sing he did!). Don asked Tom to fill in for him and these, and Tom wound up placing what I believe was low E on his steel to help out.

As far as the theory behind this, it's basically an octave jump that transforms into a augmented 7th chord with the addition of the 'G' to the still ringing 'A' string.
