I use mixolydian a lot (an unabashed ex-hippie), but I don't think of it as a blues scale. Maybe I need to try applying it where I usually don't.

Thanks for explaining the "charlie" scale - it's skipping those two notes that makes it.

What's the difference between natural and melodic minor? (I'll look in Denyer's Guitar Handbook and see if he mentions it. Haven't opened it in ages.) Once I know what the scale is, I'll try that - sounds like it'll open some possibilities.

Also - I once saw a diagram of a scale SRV liked - I think the writer called it "the Voodoo scale." What was odd was that it covered two octaves, with slightly different notes in each octave. Does that make sense to anyone?
