I think the trick with flame and light tints it to run black over and then sand it before putting the lighter color on. The black sticks in the flame, and between goes back to nude wood and takes the lighter color on for a pop of the flame and a good contrast. just saying...
I learned this a long time ago and all but forgot before I saw that vid in the Burst Thread here recently. If you've got lacquer on it, I thnk it would be worth the trouble to back up a bit for this effect.
