Building codes exist for a reason. different dimentions of wood have different load qualities. AND a structure has to have DEAD LOAD, and LIVE load capacities.
then you're building it ON a living thing that CONSTANTLY moves (if it grows, it moves, people...let alone wind/weather!!!!)
my neighbor just built a treehouse, and of course, i WON'T let my kid inside it b/c i CAN SEE IT'S NOT STRUCTURALLY SOUND. No permit was gotten, and it WAS NOT MADE BY A CARPENTER, it was made by someone who bought carpenters' tools at HD, and a 'how-to' book.
God forbid anything happens to any kids, but i would not be able to live w/ myself if anything were to happen to my kid b/c i didn't think like the crowd and allow my kids to play on an unsafe/unauthorized/illegal/inadequate/ill-constructed tree house.

Im glad my parents let me play with toys and play on and around things that were not 100% safe.
Damnedest thing too, I lived to grow into an adult.
