Well, you'd want a pretty smooth finish on the body already before you applied it. Then you could wet it down pretty good and squeegie it flat. You use a few drops of Joy dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle of water to make it "slippy" as they say in rallying. Wet the top of the body liberally and slowly work it down with the squeegee. (how the heck do you spell squeegy???) If it starts to wrinkle, lift it a bit and spray some more water/joy on the body. You've got to keep it wet underneath the part that's not down the way you want it.

I used to do vinyl graphics and window tint. It's easy once you have some practice. Buy some scrap wood, paint it, and practice to get the feel.
