After re-reading your post all I can say is, I'm sorry. I was way too harsh. I was mostly going by the "putting a couple of bullet holes in it" thing.
If one is into Les Pauls, those things are definitely worth a look. And I suppose a used one would be a bargain if one could pick it up for a couple of hundred.
