The Gift

This is a very special build
Our neighbors are about to celebrate their 100 year anniversary of living in our community.A little history.
The main person in this family is 75 years old. They live 3 miles away from my farm, which I bought from my mom and dad a few years ago. This guy played in the band which my mother and father played in for 25+ years. They traveled all over playing in little country halls and old school houses. His youngest son is 1 year younger than I am.When I was growing up we spent a lot of time together. We did pretty much everything together.Hunting, playing hockey, baseball, you name it.If I wasn't at their house he was at my house.
OK,on this guys fathers original homestead stands an old barn, which is now owned by his oldest son.His son has tried to talk him into letting him burn it down for many years with no success. He says it's a landmark and should stay there until it falls down.
He has asked my mother and I if we would come play some music on their anniversary( family reunion) that they are having on July 26th.All the old band members will be there, except my father that passed away a little over a year ago. This guy has been a great family friend since I can remember, and has really supported me since I have started building guitars.
OK,so last Monday night I got an idea.Never dawned on me until then. Why not do a special build and give it to him the night of their reunion. Is there enough time!!!!!!There is if I use this water based lacquer. It cures really fast.
I contacted the son and asked if I could take some wood from the old barn and he said, take it all, hehe
This old barn is in pretty bad shape.I had a terrible time finding enough decent wood to work with.

I headed into it with my chainsaw and come out with this

Yep,thats cow poop on the 2x8

I took my belt sander and cleaned up all the dirt and other stuff off the wood, gut it to length with the skill saw and headed to the planer.
