Well, I don't know if they're "universally disliked."
The thing about the Transporter cabs is that they have the aluminum cone drivers. Not all Harkes do, my Hartke combo doesn't. But that is kind of what they are famous (infamous) for.
Some people like 'em, some don't.
Personally I wouldn't want to use them. The sound (I'm told - I've never played through one) is "trebly" and more geared toward the mids and highs. Possibly better suited for slap and other "trebly" styles.
I prefer a more deeper and warmer tone.
