Do you have THREE-conductor P90s? Because, if you have the vintage braided-shield style leads, when you put those pickups in series or out of phase, it puts the entire length of that lead and all the metal parts of the pickup (baseplate, magnets, polepieces, mounting screws) on the HOT side of the circuit. AND, you'll have to insulate the entire length of it, so that you don't get an output-killing short to ground in the control cavity. No arcs and sparks, but MUCH potential for either NO OUTPUT or unpleasant noises.
