Don, I ran into the same problem when I did mine. I ended up doing what you did, but in the process discovered that there are some workable players that you can add to a regular MySpace page. My wife's got one on her page:
http://www.myspace.com/singin_in_th_rain. Check it out - they allow some customization of colors, styles, etc.
