Not sure if I need a 12" speaker to get a little more warmth. Thanks!

It's not a solid-state, but it's the best bang for the buck, and it's a Fender. Check out the new
Fender Super Champ XD for under $300. It's a 15-watt Class A/B, 6V6 output, tube amp with a clean channel voiced to a Fender Blackface and second channel with 16, mostly Fender models: Tweed (3), Blackface (3), British (3), Hot Rod (3), Metalhead (2), Jassmaster (1) and Acoustasonic (1). It's very portable (24 pounds), very loud and very toneworthy.
The only Fender solid states that I would consider would be the
Princeton Chorus (60-watts, 2x10), which is not longer made, and the new
Frontman 212R (100-watts, 2x12). Either can be had for under $300.
