To answer your questions, yes - I used a yellowish cardstock that I found at
Michaels. I had to use "pastel yellow" to match the vintage white of the guitar. It's actually a shade or two lighter than the guitar but for some reason when it's surrounded by all of the black on the design it matches the guitar.
Yes again, I traced the outline from the clear pickguard, cut it out, and punched the screws right through it. Not very subtle but it works!

I spent weeks looking for a paisley fabric both in stores and online but couldn't find anything close. I finally got fed-up and was going to get a graphics tablet to trace the design and print it on paper.
