There are many many ways to do this. The main thing is to make sure that the wire makes contact with the bridge plate and stays put. it doesn't necessarily have to be soldered.
In my Teles, I use a multi-filiment wire and I spread the filiments out like a very thin fan. Then, when I mount the bridge, I put the fan under the plate, screw down the plate, and then run the rest of the wire through the pickup cavity into the control cavity where I solder the other end to one of the control pots. It works great.
